Fracking News

Fracking waste too radioactive for landfills

January 14, 2012 By TXsharon

This is only news to those of you who have been hiding under a rock for the past decade. But, if this is the first time you’ve heard it, we are so glad you are here.

Oilfield wastewater filters rejected at landfills for radioactivity

We’ve been here before. By now you should know that drilling waste is radioactive. And let me explain something: Industry likes to call this radioactive waste Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material. WORDS ARE IMPORTANT! Repeat that: WORDS ARE IMPORTANT! See how they call it “naturally occurring.” They will argue endlessly about how even your wristwatch contains naturally occurring…

It is ONLY naturally occurring when it is deep in the earth. When they bring it up to the surface, it is highly concentrated radioactive waste that has a 1622 year half-life.

For a very long time, Wilma Subra has been sounding the alarm about radioactive drilling waste and its 1622 year half life.

Peggy Heinkel-Wolfe broke the news about NORM in the Barnett Shale in 2007.

And it’s not like I haven’t warned you over and over and over…

In Garfield County fracking waste pit liners are too toxic for the dump.

There’s more but I need to get off this thing.

Don’t forget how ExxonMobil “fixes” NORM radioactive equipment on Rancho Los Malulos:

Just paint over them radiation warnings, & hope it goes away!

Keep up the good work Tx Sharon. This stuff is all bad, expecially the radioactive aspects of fracking fluids and other produced fluids/gasses.

Another AMAZING post Sharon! I’m “glowing” just from reading it!

There is a blog about the radioactive follies in the Kentucky area by oil companies:

    http://marthaoilfield.blogspot.com/

But, there’s been no posts for several years there. Still, it’s worrisome what was reported.

Also, don’t listen to those that say “It’s natural radiation, so it can’t hurt you”. Uranium/radium miners were killed & maimed by the “natural” radiation they worked around. Plus, you don’t want to eat “natural” oleander or hemlock, even if it’s “natural”.

Ghost– great points! I’m the “new” kid on the chopping block (Idaho) and each and every little point like this helps us “Davids” in our battle with Goliath!

[…] Frack waste can also be radioactive.  There is plenty of information on the web. Here is a good place to start. […]
