60 Minutes "shalionaires" take away message

November 27, 2010 By TXsharon

Here’s what people remember from the 60 Minutes piece:

A few weeks back, CBS’ 60 Minutes did a program on “shalionaires,” or people who have become wealthy via this new form of energy production. Getting on 60 Minutes is sort of like getting on the cover of Time magazine used to be, it means you’ve gone mainstream.

Fort Worth Business Press

I spoke with the producer of the 60 Minutes piece. There is quite a bit on tape that they did not reveal and quite a bit about the issue that was not exposed. It will run again this summer and there should be some edits. Let’s hope so.

About Sharon Wilson

Sharon Wilson is considered a leading citizen expert on the impacts of shale oil and gas extraction. She is the go-to person whether it’s top EPA officials from D.C., national and international news networks, or residents facing the shock of eminent domain and the devastating environmental effects of natural gas development in their backyards.

    Hi Sharon,
The 60 Minutes "piece" was shameful – and harmful. I hope you took a machete to the producer's intellectual thicket.
    Please see my posts:

The Australian 60 Minutes May segment "Undermined" was outstanding. Liz Hayes makes Leslie Stahl seem very small by comparison.
Also, Michael Brune should resign, be fired or made to wear a muzzle.
    Onward…

I'm hopeful for additional footage to be released-not of Christine and I, although I think there's certainly more that I would like to have seen shared-but actually, more of Aubrey. Yes, More Aubrey McClendon. If we were interviewed for two hours, I assume that Aubrey was as well. I'd love to hear and see the entire interview with him, and am quite confident that it will expose the real truth, and people can judge for themselves. I also would like to see what impacts exist near the two LA fools who sold out for Cadillacs claiming it was a "Gift from the Good Lord". God does in fact, provide your needs-but no one needs a Cadillac. I pray that these two do something good with their blood money, other than buying material possesions. We all, however, need clean air and water.

The LA Shaleionaires will take their money and move away from the devastation to earth, natural resources and health. Their neighbors who are likely as poor as the Shaleionaires once were will be stuck with the impacts because they won't be able to move away.

That's called profiting at your neighbors' expense. I don't think the "Good Lord" would approve.

I hope CBS comes forth with the truth about Shale Drilling and it's impact on peoples lives–CBS needs to resort to the ways that were present at CBS when Dan Rather & Company was there!!
