I’ll repeat an idea I’ve expressed before and carry it a step further. If you are convinced that these earthquakes are related to oil & gas activity, then lets SUBSTANTIATE this. There are reams of data on O & G wells on public record & plenty of USGS info. on seismic activity. I have a NOVEL idea. Why not have some of the industry trade groups & environmental “heavy weights” collaborate & sponsor a comprehensive study by a reputable university to determine the facts. Instead of this endless banter, let’s ELEVATE the debate and (actually) determine the risks & look for potential solutions if, in fact there is an ACTUAL problem. Maybe we can start a new trend…call it “Exuberant Rationalism.”

Can you imagine the interests you’d be fighting against to prove a connection between oil, gas, and seismic activity?

It would seem unlikely but believe it or not, more & more rank & file employees of oil & gas companies are becoming more like me…TIRED of getting TRASHED on numerous allegations which are unsubstantiated. Matter of fact, I’ve recommended to a local trade group that the API & other national industry trade groups solicit cooperation with some of the environmental & conservation organizations to seek colaberation on some scientific studies. No honest operator is afraid of FACTS and peer reviewed science. If there is any validity to claims & procedures have to change, that is how you get “best practices.” We need to develop fossil fuels responsibly. I believe there is more industry support than you might expect…
