Exceptional drought conditions in Texas

May 7, 2011 By TXsharon

The U.S. Drought Monitor shows that nearly all of Texas is either in exceptional drought or extreme drought.

Go ahead, click and see for yourselves.

Of the metered sources in the four county Upper Trinity Groundwater Conservation District, Barnett Shale drillers used 1,146,598,272 gallons of water and paid .00022 cents per gallon in 2009. Many drillers took water from unmetered sources but there were no enforcement actions.

That water is gone. FOREVER!

I just returned from a trip to Portales, NM. Extremely windy, which is usual, and extremely dry. Seemed like everyone has dirt for a front lawn. People I spoke to said it hasn't rained in over 6 months. Didnlt see any gas drilling operations, so at least the frackers aren't sucking up and permanantly contaminating what little water there is.
