…well, sort of.
Keller requires a 600 foot setback which is ridiculously close as we are seeing from the health effects reported throughout the Barnett Shale. They stuck by their ordinance and denied a request from XTO to drill 400 feet from a residence.
The City Council stood by its gas well ordinance late Tuesday and denied a request by XTO to drill up to 12 gas wells within 400 feet of two Keller homes.
“I think we have one of the most industry-friendly set backs at 600 feet and I am standing by it,” Councilman Mitch Holmes said.
The majority of the council agreed and denied the proposal with a 4-1 vote. Councilman Tom Cawthra recused himself from the discussion and Councilman Ray Brown voted against it.
Brown said some comments made during the meeting raised some “serious doubts” but he declined to comment further.
The Town Hall erupted in cheers after the pad site was denied. LINK
