Texas On the Brink – How we rate environmentally

February 15, 2011 By TXsharon

A new website, Texas On the Brink, shows how Texas ranks among the 50 states. The news is disgraceful!  I can remember being proud of Texas but that was way back before we fell under decades of Republican rule.

Here is how we rank environmentally:

(50th = lowest, 1st = highest)

  • Amount of Carbon Dioxide Emissions – 1st
  • Amount of Volatile Organic Compounds Released into Air – 1st
  • Amount of Toxic Chemicals Released into Water – 1st
  • Amount of Recognized Cancer-Causing Carcinogens Released into Air – 1st
  • Amount of Hazardous Waste Generated – 1st
  • Amount of Toxic Chemicals Released into Air – 5th
  • Amount of Recognized Cancer-Causing Carcinogens Released into Water – 7th
  • Number of Hazardous Waste Sites on National Priority List – 7th
  • Consumption of Energy per Capita – 5th

With Texas being so deadly toxic, we will need good health care but, sadly, we rank at the bottom in health care.

Compare with 2007. It has actually either remained the same or is better. Doesn't make much sense if you want to blame it on the drilling.

Compare 2007 to 2011–no way–full of problems–different toxins, different accuracies, different measurements, etc, etc. Also in 2007 the Boom in gas drilling was well underway in Tx. In the middle of the Boom in Booger. Trust me, gas drilling, production, treatment, and transportation is a MAJOR cause. Is complimented by Coal, and other sources.

So does this mean Dave Crockett had it wrong all along ? He did end up in Hell ?

It's very saddening that Texans let this happen to their country. Take it back Texans! Make this a healthy land. Don't sell out to big oil or gas. And don't drink that freaking fracking water !

Ahm, do you see drilling referenced ANYWHERE in this post???

I'm not blaming drilling on all of these problems. I'm blaming the Republicans because they have been in control of Texas for decades. No one else to blame.

The republican party is well known for their parochial thought process, hypocrisy and backward thinking.

What else can you expect when dumb voters head to the polls year after year and blindly check the republican check box to vote along party lines when they have been convinced that abortion and gays are the greatest crises mankind has faced

Whether you want to blame Republicans or drilling Texas' numbers have actually improved. I am a Democrat myself and would love to blame the Republicans but the numbers just aren't there.

Okay, 3:01 PM. You say the numbers aren't there. What kind of numbers do you need to see that Texas is in the toilet? You can't get much worse than worst.
