What Split Estate means in the gas patch

November 18, 2010 By TXsharon

This is great additional video from the 60 minutes segment on gas drilling.

“If you buy land in a Split Estate and you do not own the mineral rights…what you’re really buying is [the] 200 feet around your house… That’s what you really own.” ~Christine

“Whether you own 2 acres, 20 acres 2,000 acres or 20,000 acres, you own 200 feet around your home.” ~Tim Ruggiero

Wow I didnt even realize Texas has a split estate type deal like Colorado. And Tim Ruggiero is the shit and I totally would have visited you in prison had you served those trespassers some out west justice.

Well done Tim and Christine! Thanks for getting the word out. I am continually amazed at how gracefully you are handling this injustice to your family and your neighbors. I still do not understand why the mineral owner does not offer to purchase your property at least at the price he sold it to you for. That way you could move forward. I realize it would still be a finacial loss for you. Says allot about him-the mineral owner.

There are many times when this industry forces us to lie down and play dead. Each of us chooses for how long we decide to play that game.

A very few choose to play dead briefly in order to fight a better fight on a better day.

Tim is far more beneficial to all of us outside of prison (though the support is appreciated).

As far as gracefulness goes, it is much easier when one believes that no weapon formed against you will prosper.

It doesn't mean victory will happen overnight, it just means it will happen.
