Bartonville Mayor admits natural gas development devalues property

September 23, 2010 By TXsharon

Not only does Runner Susan do the math, she also spells it out:

A lot of people in my neck of the woods don’t understand or don’t want to understand the negative impacts natural gas drilling and hydraulic fracturing has on the environment or our health. But there is one thing that almost everyone understands – property value.

Kudos to the Mayor of Bartonville for trying to protect his citizens from property value loss due to natural gas development. Runner Susan has a video of the Bartonville Mayor admitting that “property valuations have taken a decline”. Way to go, Mr. Mayor, for trying to protect your citizens! I do think you are starting to get the picture.

Here is a transcript from the video:

If you go look on what the developers have done at Jeter and Frenchtown, you will have little confidence in what would happen in this particular case. I don’t know if that’s the case. Property valuations have taken a decline no matter what, by someone. We argue but the valuation will take a decline. It has already happened, in another part of…not far from … in the county area surrounding.

The Argyle-Bartonville Communities Alliance also does math. They calculate the projected property value loss from this Blessing called the Barnett Shale.

It is a waste of our money and efforts to build and live in nice homes in Texas. Any number of things can move in on you and ruin your home, including O&G, toll roads, sewer plants, wind farms, rock crushers, etc. In Texas anything goes and you (the resident) has no help. And on top of that we have these overbearing and burdensome property taxes!!
