Mayor Tillman at EPA meeting: State testing conflicts with private testing

Mayor Tillman’s bombshell at EPA meeting

The monitor in DISH is not showing emissions but independent testing next to the monitor shows a different story.

Mayor Tillman's revelations are astounding! I guess the message is: no one can trust these regulatory bodies. Citizens have to verify at their own expense. That's certain;y not the way it should be, but what choice do we have?

Hope there is no third party testing screw up like last time with the ppbv and ug/m3, that was interesting to see how just a little slide of hand made the results look so different. Oh well honest mistakes happen.

Honest mistakes happen and intentional, dishonest mistakes happen. The difference is that people who make honest mistakes admit them and make corrections. When has industry ever done that?

The thing about the air testing is that anyone can do it. All you do is open the canister then close it and the lab does the rest. The great thing about a professional doing it is they can make a determination about where to place the canister. You know, like when Kleinfelder placed the canister UPWIND from the plume in Flower Mound.

Keep after them. Your struggle is an example to other situations in which the public is being abused by corporations and the government stands by.

  6. Katie says

    August 3, 2010 at 4:51 pm

Yep Sharon determine whether to place it right next to the gas pump at the gas station or say at an open thief hatch or a closed up garage with an open 5 gal gas can. Just saying. Results from a permanently mounted monitor versus a mobile canister. Just has that fishy smell to it. I can play the conspiracy card same as you.

  7. TXsharon says

    August 3, 2010 at 5:21 pm

Katie, there is no conspiracy. Kleinfelder put the canister upwind from the plum. That's just a pesky little fact that was proven by Kleinfelder's own doucuments.

Are you making an accusation here? Are you accusing the Town of DISH of fraud.

  8. Katie says

    August 3, 2010 at 5:35 pm

So it was worded like this in his own documents "I placed the canister upwind from the plume."

The same accusations you levy on a daily basis. There is no way to document canister placement. There is with the monitor that is permanently placed. How can you argue that? Heck even the newspapers make no mention.

  9. TXsharon says

    August 3, 2010 at 5:45 pm

Seriously? You can't be serious. Since you are in the industry, you must be familiar with environmental testing. Oh wait! Silly me. You guys don't believe in that stuff.

Here's how it works: they note the GIS of each canister location. Using that information, you can check the weather service for wind direction. So simple even a landman can do it.

There are 193 gas stations in Denton County. All are required to have vapor recovery. There are more than 7,800 pieces of natural gas production equipment in Denton County. Except for compressors with catalytic converters, none of that equipment is required to have vapor recovery or other emissions controls.

That dead horse known as Red Herring needs to be buried already.

"So simple even a landman can do it." – I was with you until that statement.

  12. Katie says

    August 3, 2010 at 6:14 pm

Hmmm so general wind direction and the honor system, your right it's a scientific operation. Particularly since GIS has an error margin +\- 100 ft. I won't question you again about claiming someone is a lair/cheat/scumbag. I'm a believer it's simple. Just don't question me when I make the same observations about your bombshell testing. Thanks.

Oh wow! Thanks Katie! That means GIS is a LOT more accurate than hydraulic fracturing.

Ahm, just a reminder: this is MY blog so I'll probably continue to question whomever I want whenever I want. You can feel free to post comments whenever you want. Unlike the industry blogs, I believe in free speech.

7,800 pieces of unregulated gas equip. in Denton County pumping toxins at us day and night!?!?!?! STFU, Katie!

@Katie Funny thing about science, if its good science, the results can be duplicated and verified. TCEQ will never know when the monitor in Dish is going to be checked for accuracy,so TCEQ has a problem on their hands do they continue under-reporting and risk further evidence being collected? We shall see!

One thing is certain, either one (or both) parties are wrong about air emissions. I wish there was more independent testing done, but then again, there is NO independent testing being done. It is all paid by one group with a specific interest or the other. It is troubling after years and years and all of this testing, we are no closer to knowing the truth than we were a few years ago. As always, I will stay tuned and "keep up".

  19. TXsharon says

    August 3, 2010 at 9:23 pm

Thank you for staying tuned but we already know the truth. Every test shows basically the same thing: there are a whole host of toxic compounds in the air we are breathing. Any test has shown exceedances, sometimes many and sometimes few. Think about the overall picture.

Take the time to actually read the recent BSEEC study. Ignore the spin and read the raw data with a critical mind.

We already know what's in our air. It's time to stop measuring and start fixing.

Here's a very simple way to determine what's really going on: If the Industry really had made a concerted effort to address leaks and emissions in DISH, and had actually installed newer pieces of equipment, vapor recovery devices or anything else to control or even reduce their emissions, they'd be having a press ocnference over what Good Neighbors there are. But this never happened. It's also the TCEQ's faulty equipment, not the Industry's, and the Industry certainly isn't going to question the results when the the tCEQ says "No Violations Found". One can only conclude that since the Industry has failed to boast about their 'improvements', they know they've actually done nothing except let the TCEQ run it's usual course of "The benzene needs to be okay." (That was a quote from a hand written note from someone at the TCEQ)

  22. David says

    August 4, 2010 at 8:10 am

@Tim I dont think its faulty equipment. This is intentinal, this is fraud in the worst way. The EPA needs to test and call ln the FBI if the same results are found!

  23. David says

    August 4, 2010 at 8:42 am

@Tim The data from all the air monitors is most likely collected on a server in the basement of TCEQ headquarters in Austin where it could be manipulated.

  24. Jackie says

    August 4, 2010 at 1:59 pm

It appears the TCEQ placed the monitoring system in Dish to silence Mayor Tillman and the residents.

It also appears the TCEQ along with other agencies, and industry think people in general are ignorant.

It's difficult, if not impossible to go back to being naive about agencies and industry once the vail has been lifted.

May I assume the Smith's water was never corrected by industry even though drilling mud was found in their water.

  25. Anonymous says

    August 4, 2010 at 2:18 pm

The TCEQ can't even test for accurate results, what makes you think they can use a computer?
