Natural gas explosion rocks Los Angeles

One person is dead.

…two people were hurled out of the building and were wedged under cars. At least one was pinned under the axle of a car.

    The news report I saw said that there was welding going on in a nearby housing unit, and apparently hit a gas line in the building, causing the explosion.

    weird-I read someone tampered with the gas line to "steal" gas?

    Gas theft from bypassing meters, or reconnecting gas after it's turned off for non-payment, is often done with weak materials for the bypass pipe & connectors. Bypassing the pressure regulator is frequently done in those situations as well.

    People keep getting killed by doing these things to steal gas.
