Aruba venting and harming human health

July 20, 2010 By TXsharon

Attention, Tony Walker, TCEQ Regional Director, 817 / 588-5902, twalker@tceq.state.tx.us:

Aruba Petroleum is still venting in the Allison Community. The residents have already been exposed to high levels of benzene long-term. What are you going to do about it and when will you do it?

Previous TCEQ testing when this venting was occurring:

02/03/2010 – 120 ppbv benzene
02/27/2010 – 17 ppbv benzene
02/28/2010 – 7.4 ppbv benzene

Other samples near Tim and Christine’s home:

01/17/2010 – 59 ppbv benzene
05/29/2010 – 12 ppbv benzene

Please, please, Dear Readers, call Tony and ask him to DO SOMETHING!

Just wait until people get killed from a release of H2S. The Barnett Shale is not free of H2S!

Aruba Petroleum only has to notify and get a permit from the TCEQ if they BELIEVE the amount of noxious fumes and dangerous gases being released a mere few hundred feet from our homes is above the limit. If they don't believe it will- although their means of measurement is just a guess- then they don't have to get the permit. I might point out that Aruba Petroeum was cited $32,500 for Emissions violations- similar to what it seen in this video as well as permitting violations. Naturally, ARuba went crying to John Sadlier in an attempt to eliminate the fine. I see that they understood what they were doing all along, because they are doing it again.

How many times does an operator need to cited before they get shut down because they are too stupid, too careless and reckless to be permitted to operate at all?

This shit is too close to our lungs, and way too close to our elderly neighbir's lungs, and my neighor's children and our child.

President Larry Poston of Aruba Petroleum- Why is this okay? What gives you the right to poison us? Do you have any regard for anyone? It appears you are willing to do whatever it takes and sacrifice our health and welfare all in the name of making money for your dispicable and unethical company.

You keep saying you've been a 'prudent and reasonable' operator. Look those words up in a dictionary and see if the definitions match to what YOU are doing.

NOBODY regulates O&G in Tx–that's a big fat zero (0)! O&g is free to do what ever they want to whenever they want to! That's the way it has always been, and that is the way it will continue to be!

"That's the way it has always been, and that is the way it will continue to be!" – I prefer the saying "The bigger they are, the harder they fall"

I prefer that one too! Big Gas turned out big time in Denton tonight but the little people were there in big numbers and Phase 1 of the new ordinances passed 7-0

So, the Barnett Shale Newsletter will say "All 7 elected officals are wackos"…..or another interpretation is that the majority have spoken.

The people in the Barnett Shale are not idiots and are educated to the facts. Gone are the days of "trust me I'm from the government and I am here to help you".
Actually last night the industry's attempt to change the city counsel's minds was pretty pathetic.
I pretty much had my statement written out before I spoke because I knew industry was going to use the same old BS.
Council person Dalton Gregory was a shining star last night. He asked the hard questions and called industry out when they made misleading remarks.
DALTON GREGORY FOR MAYOR OF DENTON!
James King and Chris Watt's pro-industry leanings were pretty evident last night.
Thanks Sharon for your support, inspiration, dedication, and knowledge. We could not have done it without you. Bird video was favorite! That is what I looked like at 2:00 this morning when I got home.

Southlake is over 90% republican and their drilling ordinances are some of stongest in the Barnett Shale.
I think as much as industry hates it this issue is not a matter of politics but health and safety.
