BP has caused an unprecedented environmental and economic disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. Yet along with conservative politicians, a well oiled public relations machine and their countless and shameless lobbyists they continue to push for more irresponsible drilling and want to make us believe that what they are doing is righteous and necessary.

Enough. We don’t need more shameless media games and manipulative political agendas. What we need now more than ever is to stop once and for all our obsession with petroleum.

Sincerely,
Robert Greenwald
and the Brave New Foundation team

Please note in all fairness: Mary Landrieu is a Democrat–one of the most conservative Democrats in the Senate. There are other Democrats that should be added to this video. Recently a reader took issue because I posted some quotes that included Joe Barton’s political affiliation and that made the reader feel marginalized. We are all victims of a broken political process that becomes more divided every day and a media that exacerbates the division. We have to identify the problem(s) before we can fix them. In many cases, that might mean voting without considering the political party affiliation of a candidate and it often means voting for the “lesser of 2 weevils.” Remember the definition of insanity per Einstein:

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”.

People who continue to vote for “Smokey” Joe Barton expecting him to be anything other than a servant of the oil and gas industry might need a mental health check.

When it comes to oil and gas issues, I do not shirk from calling it like I see it (speaking of lesser of 2 weevils) no matter what the political affiliation.

I hereby invite any current office holder and all political candidates to take my Barnett Shale tour. If officials from Washington, D.C. are interested enough in our environmental concerns to travel here and spend a day touring with me, surely our very own elected officials and political candidates can do likewise.

And let's not forget that the biggest recipient of campaign money from BP's PAC – now largest polluter in the world – is none other than Barak Obama.

I think it's important to let him know about that and critical that we support public funded campaigns.

It's critical that we keep the current agressive EPA that was assembled by Obama so we should not cut our noses off. If we lose this EPA, we are sunk.

Things generally boil down to the lesser of two evils.
