Onshore oil spill in Brazos County creek

June 10, 2010 By TXsharon

Emergency crews are responding to stop an oil leak in Thompson Creek in Brazos County. An oil slick in the creek was reported.

The water rising from the creek washed out two smudge pits near a recently re-drilled oil well. The well site is located off of Highway 21 near Smetana.

Brazos County Precinct Four received help in containing the spill from the Hazmat teams from Bryan and College Station. A boat was used to place a boom in the high water to contain the spill.

I'm pretty sure they mean a sludge pit. Why does Texas still allow the use of pits? And why do they allow drilling infrastructure in flood plain? That's just @$%* stupid.

Anybody else have DRPTSD {Drilling Related Post Tramatic Stress Disorder)?

At least with your blog you can put the truth out without the spin , unlike us sloggers that do battle in the trenches(comment sections) tiring to correct the misleading statements of the story or other commenter's. I've reached the conclusion that some commenter's will never accept the truth.

We went on water restrictions here in Denton June 1 until Sept 31. Meanwhile Range Resources at Razyor Ranch is finishing up the drilling of the 3rd well and fracturing of well 2 and 3 will begin probably within 3 weeks. Range has water line hooked up to city hydrants for the millions of gallons it will take to fracture these 2 wells. I wonder is they will also have their water use restricted?
I read Boone Pickens said "water will be like new oil" a much needed commodity. However he is heavily invested in gas well development in the Barnett Shale. Recycle fracturing water Boone that would be a great investment in the future.
