Condensate spill in Wise County creek

Ruptured pipeline leaks into creek

Opaque pearl sheens snaked over the surface of the mud-colored creek rushing high beneath the bridge. Every few seconds more puddles of the substance skimmed across the surface of the creek racing east to Lake Bridgeport. An acrid fuel smell skipped in the breeze.

They don’t know how much has leaked into the creek or how long it’s been leaking but they have determined that it’s not an environmental threat. No kidding.

Here’s what we know is in condensate from another spill:

They’re not exactly sure it’s condensate because they don’t know whose pipeline it is.

“Oil companies have lines running all over this place,” said Brian Bernardo, an officer with Runaway Bay police department. “There’s no telling whose it is.”

Incidents like this tend to get noticed by regulators now, thanks to BP's current disaster.

I'd say start writing citations to every company with a pipe in the vicinity. Should have the offending party named in no time at all!

They wouldn't get noticed if it weren't for BP? I don't think so!

Well, the BP blowout is putting heat on all O&G regulators.

I see what you mean, Mike. To me, the blowout confirmed what I knew was dangerous; but the magnitude of the underwater disaster has been shocking.

It's a good thing CHK controls most of FW, so that a few years down the road when the hundreds of miles of pipelines pretzeling the city go bust (or BOOM), fingers will point at the owner/perp. Of course, CHK will get a slap on the hand since they pretty much own FW. People can't slap the hand too hard that brings them economic prosperity AND EVEN EDUCATION AND CULTURE.
