Gov. Rick Perry To EPA: Don’t Mess With Texas

“There’s no doubt in my mind or at any of the leadership in EPA,” Armendariz says, “That the way the air programs have been run in the state of Texas for the last 15 years is gonna end, and it’s gonna end really soon.”

It can’t end soon enough for those of us in the Barnett Shale but Rick Perry is highly invested in keeping our air dirty. And our highest environmental officer says we’re just misunderstood.

Bryan Shaw, chairman of TCEQ, says the program is misunderstood.

Here’s something even Shaw can understand:

Armendariz has told the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality that its program for granting air emissions permits to industrial facilities violates the federal Clean Air Act. And if TCEQ doesn’t tighten up the program and allow more public input, the EPA could conceivably take it over.

Somebody sure needs to take over the TCEQ. The EPA needs to march into Austin and padlock the doors and send all those industry friendly bureaucrats home for a permanent coffee break!

As one anonymous to another, I totally agree. I am angry b/c of the drilling situation and also because of TCEQ's failure to insist on groundwater clean up at the Naval Air facilities in Dallas. They always choose the easy, cheap, industry-friendly path and our land, air, and water never improve-just get worse overall with more industrial abuse.

You do know that misuse of lawn care products contributes more to ground water contamination,(100-200 ft from the water table) especially in urban areas, than fracing 8000' from surface.
