Big Oil and Gas spent $154 million on lobbying last year

February 3, 2010 By TXsharon

The irony never stops. (See previous post about Big Gas complaining about complaints)

Oil and Gas Interests Set Spending Record for Lobbying in 2009

They’re just sharing “fact based” information with our lawmakers.

“We had a lot of work to do trying to educate people on these issues and contribute to a more fact-based discussion,” said Bill Bush, spokesman for the American Petroleum Institute, the trade group for oil and gas companies.

“We hope we were successful,” Bush added. “Others are contributing other perspectives. In the end, Congress is going to make its own judgments for its own reasons.”

XOM spent the most on lobbying, $6.7 Million. Think of all the Duck Tape they could buy with that money. When XOM moves into the Barnett Shale there will be an awful lot of pipelines to fix so they’re going to need lots of tape.

Green Lobbying was $18.3 million.

They could maximize shareholder value by not even purchasing the duct tape. 154 million, that would buy a lot of vapor recovery technology.
