Barnett Shale Earthquake in Ellis County

December 7, 2009 By TXsharon

Another Barnett Shale Earthquake.

Mountain Creek records 2.8-magnitude earthquake

ELLIS COUNTY — A 2.8-magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Mountain Creek community in Ellis County about 11:30 p.m. Friday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The epicenter was 21 miles south of Grand Prairie and could be felt as far away as Fort Worth, 54 miles away, according to USGS records. Anything below 3 is considered very minor and would not do damage, said Dale Grant, a USGS geophysicist. Officials in nearby Cleburne have been working with researchers from Southern Methodist University to determine why the area has suddenly had a number of quakes this year.

See previous earthquake posts.

The aftershocks are from the spin that industry is winding up as I type.

OMG! Another unprecedented event in the continuing experiment known as the Barnett Shale.

    It listed here:

Note that at 3.1 miles deep, fracing could easily have triggered that event.

Wait until there's shallower earthquakes from fracing. Then, good luck in getting drilling companies to pay for damages they caused.

Don: When you say 'experiment', I think of 'experimenting' in the same sense as a medical student 'practicing' medicine. (We don't know what we're doing but we're going to keep trying different things until we decide it's the right method….for us.)

Tim and Don. So right, we are all just "test subjects" for the gas drilling industry. Unfortunately the right method ($$$$$$$$) for them has nothing to do with "drilling right"

Guys we have the same thing happening here in Oklahoma. Of course most of these people up here have their heads in the sand and are afraid to say anything. I even wrote the local TV station here about doing an investigative look into the swarms of earthquakes that keep happening in Jones, Oklahoma here ( a suburb to Oklahoma City) Same exact thing is happening here. Earthquakes in OKlahoma almost 3 to 4 times a week here. I'm doing my own research study on this now. producerguy7853@yahoo.com
