PBS Frontline: Poisoned Waters

April 22, 2009 By TXsharon

Did you watch PBS Frontline last night? If not, you can see the whole thing online HERE.

Keep this in mind:
Oil and gas has broad exemptions from our federal environmental laws including the Safe Drinking Water Act. That means we don’t even know what chemicals they are dumping into our water and they don’t have to tell us. Oil and gas drilling waste is not regulated by the EPA and that includes storm water runoff!

When the program talks about endocrine disruptors and how the chemicals affect male testes, just remember The Endocrine Disruption Exchange and read the part about oil and gas chemicals.

About Sharon Wilson

Sharon Wilson is considered a leading citizen expert on the impacts of shale oil and gas extraction. She is the go-to person whether it’s top EPA officials from D.C., national and international news networks, or residents facing the shock of eminent domain and the devastating environmental effects of natural gas development in their backyards.

Yes, I watched “Poisoned Waters.” It was very well done. It did not even brooch the subject of the effects of fracking chemicals on the endocrine system, presumably because the subject of polluted water is a big enough subject to tackle in 2 hours. However, I think it was a missed opportunity. It should have said: Poisoned Waters Part II: Natural Gas Drilling and Our Water. There should be another 2-hour special on this subject because the environmental effects of the gas industry is our next crisis (not really next- it is already happening). Just about everything that was shown in the documentary about industry’s effects on the environment and public health could be directly applied to gas drilling, too. I urge everyone to watch “Poisoned Waters!”

Maybe they left out oil and gas because without the ability to monitor, we really have no freaking clue what they are putting in our water or how to even test for it.

Yes–it's AMAZING why all these type studies and movies DO NOT EVEN APPROACH the issue of Oil and Gas pollution!! The O&G people have a great big ole hold on the information pipeline! Secret–everything's SECRET when it comes to O&G!!
