Barnett Shale Air Quality: Errors and Misstatements by Texas Oil & Gas Association

February 23, 2009 By TXsharon

February 13, 2009
The Honorable Lon Burnam
Texas State House of Representatives
District 90
Room CAP GW.8
P.O. Box 2910
Austin, TX 78768

Dear Representative Burnam,
Thank you for inviting me to speak at a capitol briefing on Wednesday regarding the air quality impacts of oil and gas production activity in the Barnett Shale area. I appreciate the ability to speak to elected officials, legislative staff, representatives of the oil and gas industry, and other interested parties in an open-forum such as the one you hosted on Wednesday.

Yesterday I received a copy of a press release from the Texas Oil and Gas Association titled, “Methodology of Barnett Shale Emissions Study Raises Concerns – Unrelated Data, Improper Assumption Dramatically Overstate Findings”, which intends to raise doubts about my work. I feel the need to correct the errors and misstatements raised by the Texas and Oil Gas Association in their press release. Please see the attached memo.

Frankly, I have doubts that the Texas Oil and Gas Association took the time to carefully read the report. The unsophisticated level of understanding, sophomoric statements, and errors of fact are even more numerous and glaring than I would have expected from one of our state’s regulatory agencies.

Thanks again. Let me know if I can ever be of assistance. And congratulations on your selection to serve on the House Environmental Regulation committee.

Sincerely,
Al Armendariz, Ph.D.

If you ever speak out AGAINST O&G in Texas, you are going to be lambasted in this manner. I know it well!
