Off Shore Drilling: Fool Me Once, Fool Me Again and Again and Again…

August 3, 2008 By TXsharon

Could my countrymen be any more shallow or gullible or just plain stupid?

Today, I heard people trying to make the case for off shore drilling because, suddenly oil prices dropped and all it took was Bush calling for off shore drilling.

Pah-leeze! I could see that coming for miles.

Maybe if you think real hard, you can remember another time or two when oil suddenly and mysteriously dropped. Hint: Just before the last two elections.

Could we think this through for a moment?

If it’s all about supply and demand, then the price should have dropped a while back when consumption went way down.

If it’s about supply and demand, then why did the price drop YEARS ahead of the increased supply?

This is manipulation and speculation. Are you too stupid to see that? rhetorical ?

My friend, Laura, over at, Environmental News for New Mexicans, wrote a letter to Mr. Obama. Please siign my name on that letter too.

Gas prices tend to drop after the summer travel season, going into fall. I don’t know how much it has to do with elections, but if I were a Republican, I’d definitely be calling in every favor with the oil companies.

They think we’ll forget that their shitty economic and energy policies are to blame for this mess. They think we’ll ignore science, economics, and common sense to believe that if we just keep doing what we’ve been doing, something different will happen.

If we elect Republicans once again, they will continue to engineer wealth redistribution from the working class to the oil aristocracy. They’ll forget about the “free market” and once again subsidize international oil companies with your tax dollars. Once again, you won’t see a bit of that money, as it’s all profit for the oil companies.

Republicans are even incompetent at their own hypocrisy when it comes to doling out subsidies. In Mexico, when the government subsidizes fuel, their consumers pay less. Here, it goes from your wallet to the government, to the oil companies, (and back to the Republican politicians) and you’re still stuck paying full market price.

The price of oil is based not on supply & demand, but on the perception of supply & demand! Also because it's traded world wide in US dollars–dollar is weak, oil companies jack up the price. Also a few other minor factors.

Prices are going DOWN! Could it be the BUST after the BOOM? It always happens that way!
