Offshore Drilling: Do we really want more of this?

July 23, 2008 By TXsharon

snagged HERE

I mean, SERIOUSLY, if you want to drill in our backyards and all over our land, CLEAN UP YOUR ACT!

Seems $400 BILLION in profits would be plenty of money to do a much better job.

This particular spill was from a barge not an offshore drilling rig. Still, we don’t need any more contamination of our water, salt or fresh.

Mississippi River could remain closed for days as fuel spill cleanup continues

The barge was carrying 9,983 barrels of oil, more than 400,000 gallons, and Coast Guard Capt. Lincoln Stroh said the entire load was likely spilled. A DEQ contractor has set up floating “boom” rings to protect local water intakes and marsh areas.

While the story is oddly worded in some parts, it seems like the tugboat hit a tanker and/or barge. The tugboat pilot was not properly licensed, seems like more a problem stemming from the tugboat operator than an oil company.

I did point out that it was not the offshore drilling rig. However, that is missing the point by a mile.

Would be interesting to know who owns the barge, who owns the oil that was spilled, who was the barge company under contract to, etc.? You know that oil companies contract (or job shop) out nearly everything.

Yes’ I know they contract out every little thing. There are more articles today about this spill. They had to shut down 29 miles of the river.

Just wait till you see the pictures I have to post tomorrow. I took them on the way home.

Keep up the good work on this site. The oil companies ‘job shop’ to reduce their liability.

Hate oil? Better give it up modern medicine. Also every kind of plastic and probably a lot of the furniture and paint in your house. And glue. And nail polish remover. Makeup. Computers.

    Dear Simpleton,

One can be an energy consumer and still demand better execution by the industry.
