Drilling Around the Law. EWG Report on Hydraulic Fracturing

January 20, 2010 By TXsharon

A new report by EWG on Hydraulic Fracturing.

“When companies say that they will not use diesel and then use other petroleum distillates, it’s a bit like promising not to smoke Marlboros and then lighting up a Camel,” said EWG Senior Counsel, Dusty Horwitt. “As far as the toxic components, the products are at least as dangerous.”

Chesapeake Energy admits they use “petroleum distillates.”

Dallas Morning News
Chesapeake Energy, one of the biggest gas drillers in the Barnett Shale, says it uses petroleum distillates, but it does not specify which ones. Chesapeake spokesman Brian L. Murnahan declined to comment on the report Tuesday.

REMEMBER: Texas has NO regulation specific to hydraulic fracturing.
