Gas Well Explodes

March 12, 2008 By TXsharon

My clever friend at Who’sPlayn developed an animated illustration for a gas well explosion story I forwarded him.

Txsharon sent along an interesting news story about a natural gas “leak” in the front yard of a 103 year old woman in Dayton, PA. It seems that houses were built upon the remains of abandoned gas wells. These old wells became re-pressurized as an unintended consequence of new drilling in the area.

I had to read it a couple of times before I could understand how that happened, but here’s my amateur animation:

This story made me think about Carroll ISD signing a lease to drill Barnett Shale gas wells on school property. Carroll ISD signs mineral rights agreement with Chesapeake Energy
