Upper Trinity Groundwater Conservation District Takes Steps to Protect Water From Barnett Shale Drilling Pollution

February 10, 2008 By TXsharon

The UTGCD board hasn’t finished hammering out all the details but so far the plan to protect our water from injection well pollution includes filing an objection to all new disposal/injection well permits. The board wants to negotiate location of future wells so nearby water wells can be monitored for chemicals.

The district also plans to have the company in question pay for testing the water samples.

“We need to protect the quality of the water and protect it for future generations,” said John Gibbon, Wise County’s second member on the UTGCD board.

Recently, an area injection well was shut down after repeated violations.
