Will the Railroad Commission Put Public First?

November 6, 2007 By TXsharon

According to Brett Shipp:

But Tuesday morning in Austin, the Railroad Commission is expected to do an about face, ordering the removal of the fittings.

Apparently, Michael Williams decided to talk now.

After a flawed report that provided cover for Atmos Energy and left Texans’ lives at risk, the RRC finally decides to take action not because they are serving the interest of the public but because Brett Shipp hounded them relentlessly.

As for Atmos,

Atmos officials said safety has always been their highest priority and that they will comply with whatever new standards are adopted.

…except when they are asked directly if there is a reason the couplings haven’t been replaced other than money and when they are bragging about cutting safety corners for their bottom line.

UPDATE:

Coupling removals ordered after News 8 investigation.
Railroad Commissioner Michael L. Williams said it was his decision to have the couplings removed and hinted it had nothing to do with the News 8 investigation.

Yeah, right…

Great work, Brett.
