If you haven’t seen Babel yet go rent the DVD or buy it because you will want to watch it more than once.
This movie shows how little errors in judgment/mistakes can have profound consequences like the “Butterfly Effect.” And, although we can’t all speak the same language and we often do a poor job of communicating, human pain and suffering is universally understood.
The part of the movie that connects with this piece: Swiftboat Backer’s Nomination is Not About Kerry. It’s About Values & Our Role Models lies with the rich spoiled American tourists. The contrast in the lack of compassion shown by the selfish, rich tourists and the deep compassion shown by the poor villagers is stark. I won’t say any more because I don’t want to be a spoiler.
This is a profound, complex movie that many people won’t fully get. It shows how we are all connected and how the choices we make effect the whole planet. It also shows how unfair the system is.
