Residents in the Eagle Ford Shale are suffering from multiple health issues associated with oil and gas production.
Eagle Ford Shale Flares Effect Health and Climate
In addition to volatile organic compounds VOCs that come with methane releases and create unhealthy ozone, oil and gas workers and nearby residents are also exposed to particulate matter from diesel exhaust, dust from caliche oil field roads, crystalline silica used in fracking and particulate matter and pollutants from flares in the Eagle Ford Shale.
No wonder they don’t recover from respiratory problems. Physicians need to be educated about these issues so they can better treat their patients.
Facts included in the video (Source):
- Flares waste natural gas, increase greenhouse gas emissions and create health risks for workers and nearby residents.
- Flares deprive the state of tax revenues and deprive royalty owners or proceeds.
- From 2009 through July 2014, oil & gas operators in the Eagle Ford wasted enough natural gas to serve the heating and cooking needs of all San Antonio homes for four years.
- Flaring from Eagle Ford wells totalled 3.5 billion pounds of carbon dioxide in 2013. That’s one year of emissions from 350,000 cars and trucks.
