Drilling the Chain of Life

August 23, 2009 By TXsharon

We hear a lot about how gas drilling operations make people sick. What about wildlife, pets and livestock? Click over to FWCanDo to learn how natural gas drilling is “perverting nature.” See pictures and video below. Click to enlarge.

Sick deer near death after ingesting spilled, drilling wastewater at a gas well facility in rural Ohio. 2008
One of 17 cows that died after drinking spilled fluid nearby a Chesapeake fracking operation in Louisiana. 2009. More on that story HERE
Dead and dying cattle at gas well facility on ranch in Arkansas, 2009. Rancher was forced to sell entire herd. Nearby ranches without drilling were unaffected.
Cattle were observed digging at exposed portion of a buried pit liner contaminated with toxic drilling waste.
Obvious signs of disease caused by exposure to drilling waste.
Overwhelmed by cancer, this buck was found in the vicinity of gas drilling operations in Louisiana. 2009. The origin of this photo is in question. I received it from a friend in Arkansas who said it was found in the Gas Patch. Apparently Don got a different story.

They were taken by different people. If you need something, help yourself.

I’m trying to find out more information on the photo of the dead deer with tumors – can you point me to the source of this image please?

That photo was taken in Arkansas in the gas patch.

Here’s where that tumor photo came from. The buck has warts caused by a virus: http://www.buckmanager.com/2010/02/10/white-tailed-deer-tumors-or-warts/

So they say. I have other sources that claim they took the photo and it has been posted in other forums. Notice the date on the post at your link. This picture was taken in 2002 (according to some other comment who claims to have found the picture properties), it was posted here in 2009 and at the link you supply in 2011. That doesn’t add up.

Fibroma is not caused by drilling. the more environmentalists lie the less people care.

You are going to talk to us about lying. That’s rich. I noticed you didn’t say anything about the other deer or the cattle.

One bad apple spoils the bunch. He didn’t mention the other pictures because they seem to be accurate. He might be an environmentalist. But people like myself tend to feel that when something can be strongly doubted is shouldn’t be used as proof positive of the dangers of something.

I’ve seen the videos of well water being lit on fire, I understand that we have no idea what is in the sludge they use. No one knows the long term ecological effects of fracking. I personally think fracking is a terrible idea. But the point is that when it is found out that that deer has a very bad case of deer fibroma people will just say “Look at how much liberal yadda yadda liars yadda yadda enviro terrorists”

Don’t manipulate. If you can’t use the information from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources website to even somewhat doubt this disease is ONLY cause by fracking then you are closed minded and will never be able to change anyone’s mind who thinks fracking is a good idea. You will seem unreasonable.

Read the website. Post your thoughts.

Please stop labeling my intent. You don’t know me!!! If I were unreasonable, I wouldn’t have posted your comments.

We put out a nationwide call for pictures and stories of animals that were harmed by drilling and or fracking. These are a few of the pictures and the stories we received–just a few.

I have lived in the gas patch for 16 years and I’ve seen it all. I do not know what caused the tumors on the deer and neither do you. I never said they were caused by fracking only that the dear was found in an area of heavy drilling.
