Gas Drilling Critics Gain Control Of Flower Mound Council
Shelley Kofler, KERA News

LISTEN HERE

Newly elected mayor Melissa Northern says the city needs time to gather more information about health and safety.

Northern: Across the country we are seeing new standards set and we want to look at those standards and we want to implement the best practices available for our community.

Please note that Northern did not say anything about banning drilling. She simply wants to see that operators Drill-Right Texas.

The referendum on Urban gas drilling is over, the voters (70% Republican) say "This is where we draw the line".

Amen to anonymous and Happy Mother's Day Sharon and Susan.

The people have spoken in a large majority. You can't say it's just a bunch of whackos anymore.

Quote "The referendum on Urban gas drilling is over, the voters (70% Republican) say "This is where we draw the line". "

Wrong, this is a case where misinformation and hypocrisy have come in. First, an incorrect study about a cancer cluster in Flower Mound caused mass hysteria that positioned people against the drilling. This was later found to be untrue. Second, the hypocrisy of republicans who want to drill and use our natural resources, but said not in our backyard. This is the same as the the democrats of Cape Cod saying that we need green energy, but will not put wind turbines within their view.

You hold the minority opinion in Flower Mound. However, if you give us your address, maybe you could put in an application to turn your lot into a Geo-thermal station. Please identify yourself as a Jody Smith supporter and I'm sure the paperwork will be expedited on your behalf. You will be happy to because, as you self proclaimed, you are not a hypocrite.

    To Anon, 4:42 pm

Your facts are inncorrect. I do not even know where to begin.

    1. Cancer study: They did find a cancer cluster for breast cancer. Also, they did not even look at, or study the pertinant years the children/adults were diagnosised with specific cancers.

    2. Not everyone who owns their mineral leased them.

    3. You are assuming you know how all Republicians think in terms of drilling with the statement "drill in someone elses backyard."

    4. Flower Mound would like to see the Drill Right Practices established for the community.

    We are done…

You are wrong anonymous 4:42 PM. No one is saying no to drilling. They are saying no to drilling irresponsibly. They are saying no to conducting industrial activity in residential communities. It is common sense not histeria.

The cancer cluster results came back BEFORE the election, so that is a moot point. Clearly, the voters had something else in mind when they put your opinion in with the minorities.
