There seems to be an awful lot of leukemia in Flower Mound and it’s suspiciously near the existing gas wells.
Monday night at the Flower Mound Town Council Meeting, two fathers spoke with us about their children who are battling leukemia. One of these families live in the Wellington area and said he knew of 3 other families in the Wellington area with children battling this disease. The other family lives in Southern Flower Mound about 4 miles from the far northern property of DFW. Let’s make it very clear no one is saying this is directly from drilling activity and there is currently no evidence of this yet. But, it makes you wonder why 5 children from the same 5 mile radius area have been diagnosed with Leukemia in the last 2 to 4 years?
Sure makes one wonder.

Tonight our new EPA Administrator for region 6 which includes Texas be be welcomed back from a recent conference at J Gilligans. At the last minute the AISD school district in Arlington was not willing to send a representative to personally ask if Dr Al had children attending school near gas drilling activities if he thought they would be safe. AISD is not making the attempt to face the truth as like all our other elcted officials seem to be better off "NOT KNOWING". Inaction is a travesty!

Asking Dr. Al such a question would be seriously misguided. He is our best advocate for clean air for our children. He is only just now at his new position and coming straight from his very first meeting with TCEQ.
Texas did not get in this mess overnight and we won't be able to straighten it out overnight either. You certainly can't blame Dr. Al for this mess!!!! Voters have handed over the keys to our state to politicians who use it as their own personal cash cow. We have to be smarter at the polls and pay much better attention.
I understand your frustration because I happen to live in the very county were Barnett Shale started years ago so I've been dealing with this for a very long time. However, we need to understand who our allies are and support them.

I agree Sharon, Dr. Armendariz is the best thing to happen to this region in years. His study on the Barnet Shale air quality last summer really got quite a bit of attention. I truly believe only great things will come from him being selected for this position.
Leukemia in children says
Leukemia cancer leads to irregularity of the blood cells that could have a damaging effect on the chromosomes or genes. Infants are also prone to this disease. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) are mostly observed among infants. If anyone observes symptoms of this disease in their child, then should immediately go to doctor.

I think the focus has been on children, however I am a 37 year old female who moved to Flower Mound in 2007 and have been diagnosed with Leukemia particularly AML and have been undergoing treatment since August 2009. This Leukemia has mainly to do with over exposure to Benzene the by product of the natural gas wells nearby the airport and found in many industrial products. I dont think we need to only be concerned just with our children, but everyone including adults and the quality of air in the immediate area. I am a marathon runner, have had great healthmost of my life however my immunity was low due to a number of sinus infections with daily exposure to benzene in the air, may have contributed to my AML. I am researching what else cans be done to notify others and get a larger concensus to research the relationship of air quality to the cases of Leukemia in Flower Mound particularly.

I agree Diane. I don't know anyone who can use leukemia.
