Range Resources VP Full of Hot Air

October 23, 2009 By TXsharon

I had a hard time deciding between the pants-on-fire or the pile of manure for this post.

Ray Walker, VP for Range Resources told the same fracking lie Victor Carrillo, Texas Railroad Commissioner told.

Ray Walker, vice president for Marcellus shale driller Range Resources, said federal regulation of hydraulic fracturing, a method of extracting natural gas, would be a mistake, because it is already regulated at the state level and, he claimed, is environmentally sound when done correctly. He also argued against a proposed change in tax accounting methods for the industry. Source

Ahmmm, no it’s not! Texas DOES NOT regulate hydraulic fracturing and many states have little or no fracking regulation while others have “substantial gaps.” Source

The industry is scared half to death of fracking regulation and their claim that the regulation will cost them too much is not true either. Here’s the reason they’re scared: LIABILITY

H.R. 2766:Fracturing Responsibility and Awareness of Chemicals Act of 2009 already has support from 160 organizations despite industry claims that the bill has a “Death Panel” and despite large infusions of industry cash at all levels. We still need a Texas co-sponsor. Please look at this list of Texas Congressional Members and their SCORECARD on key environmental and energy votes. Please write your representative or find a more reasonable one and ask them to co-sponsor H.R. 2766 today! It should be glaringly obvious that we can expect no help from our state regulatory agency so please act before it’s too late.

Even if there were such as thing as state regulation (excuse, me I'm trying to type while laughing)what this fool said was akin to "Lethal injection is very humane and painless….if it is done CORRECTLY."

That's a BIG IF. If they drill correctly- and who's watching to see that they are? No one, it's a self-regulating, self-reporting system. (Othewise known as the not-reporting system.)

IF they don't spill any harmful fluids ("It's just harmless gray water, but we'll test it for benzene and other carcingens just in case somehow some got mixed in with our patented we won't disclose to anyone drilling fluids")

IF they are 100% on the cement casing around the carcinogen drilling fluids hole….

IF there aren't any cracks in that seal…..

IF we live long enough to tell our story so that maybe someday, some politician will stop making excuses as to why they cannot get involved and sponsor the damn bill that finally gets these maverick gas companies under control!
