Jeff Weems for Texas Railroad Commissioner

September 4, 2009 By TXsharon

NICE website! Well worth the wait.

From Meet Jeff Weems:

Following in this tradition of his father and grandfathers, Jeff began working for energy service companies at every opportunity while in high school and college, which allowed him to pay for his education. Jeff worked on the rigs and as a drilling mud representative. Jeff’s son, Matthew, is the fourth generation in the business – he is a practicing petroleum engineer.

Imagine: A Railroad Commissioner who actually knows something about the industry.

I'm wondering if a OIL and GAS attorney will help clean up the corruption in the Railroad Commission

I'm a Democrat who desperately wants to vote for good Democratic candidates. He is not one of them. I've spoken with him and his language is very telling. "Salt water" used numerous times in reference to fracking until pressed. He was not thrilled and reluctantly had to admit there was more to it but only after having to acknowledge they won't release the ingredients due to trade secret. His solution: "Tell us, the regulators, and we'll keep it secret and regulate it." Still a big good ol' boy, Father Knows Best attitude. We shouldn't worry our pretty little heads and we can trust them. History shows such a damn fine track record.
His big idea for "making" them put in more safety and monitoring equipment is to give them a tax BREAK for doing it. How nice. We know it would otherwise be an unbearable financial burden for them, right?
    I could go on.
Certainly not stumping for the Republican but don't believe Weems is about big changes. We need to press him to take a much harder line on regulating the industry.

I have to agree that he is not about "big change." But he is lightyears better than what we currently have. That's a pretty sad way to determine your vote but I don't know what other choice we have.
