Well, I say that anyone who didn’t realize that the pretexts for going to war were bogus doesn’t belong in Congress, on grounds of stupidity alone. However, I think most are just using “I didn’t know” as a cop out. It was precisely the same in on the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, and ever subsequent escalation of the Vietnam War.
