A school day in the Barnett Shale

January 24, 2011 By TXsharon

If you drop your children off at school in the Barnett Shale, you might see something like THIS.

Please view the last five minutes of this video from 1/20/2011 http://www.aisd.net/video/VOD/Board_Meeting.html
I waited til almost midnight to speak to the school board about toxic drilling near my son's school. I also read a letter from a 9 year old pleading the schoolboard to stop fracking by her school cause it was making them sick.

TxSharon did you see the DMN Metro section today? New Rules for drillers in Flower Mound, no where in there do they discuss anything about Vapor Recovery Units, Catalytic Converters… so my question is this. Having briefly met Melissa Northern about a year ago at the FM Town Council meeting to vote on and change O&G variances to allow for produced water storage tanks at a particular site less than 2 miles from where I live. Anyway all run on sentences aside, she struck me as a the most informed person in the room and introduced me to the Halliburton loophole and so forth… How hard would it have been to write in rules to require the things that Drill Right Texas advocates? Because it seems like she would have been for it. Sorry if this question reveals my ignorance of local government and O&G advisory boards and such…

I wish I could help you but I can't figure out what happened. I think more will be revealed soon.

MYtoeSPACEpillow I scrubbed through that meeting to get to your speech at the end. Wow the guy before you couldnt have been talking about a less pointless topic… Your speech was passionate and had plenty of great points in it. It just made me sad that no one was there to actually listen to you. But the frustration is palpable everywhere, the population is becoming well versed on gas drilling and it's inherent deadly risks while the various boards that rubber stamped all of this continue to act like ignorant fools. After all the inane bullshit talk about protecting children… and it doesnt matter if you live in Arlington ( I grew up there) or Flower Mound. If we can't stop drill pads and compressor stations from springing up adjacent to schools of all places, what the hell can we do? I hate to digress but this is why I get furious about our state legislature diligently tackling the extreme health dangers of synthetic marijuana. Thanks for protecting our children.
