Fracking leak shuts down drill site in Michigan

February 10, 2011 By TXsharon

From Associated Press

DETROIT —
Michigan officials say operations at a natural gas well being drilled in the northwestern Lower Peninsula with a technique called hydraulic fracturing were shut down after a leak was detected earlier this week.

The state Department of Natural Resources and Environment says Thursday that the leak at the well in Benzie County’s Joyfield Township was detected late Monday or early Tuesday, and the leak was contained Tuesday. The department says there’s no imminent danger from the leak and an initial review found any environmental impacts limited to the immediate area of the well.

The department says it’s the first time such a hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, operation has experienced a leak in Michigan. The state says about 12,000 wells in Michigan have been drilled using the technique since the 1960s.

Uhm…no comment.

UPDATE: More information on the latest of those really, really, really rare fracking accidents.

Whaaa, no comments anymore because I posted a random yahoo news article bashing the EPA for doing their job in the arctic sea securing air permits for drilling but not doing the same thing in Texas??? I thought we were on the same team here? Look maybe my comments are sometimes a little too negative and hateful, trust me I know, my friends and family can barely listen to me anymore but its only because like you Im sick of the bullshit coming out of every orifice.
You know how often I read your blog, its like a huge part of my daily routine. Anyway let me know if I crossed over a line or something. Here's my email james.russo@mac.com

There are no “over the line comments”…. Be loud and proud and organize.

This type of drilling can not be done safely…all the talk about “new” jobs is how the industry preys on a weak economy.

Tell everyone you know….take the lead and be aggressive…these people are vultures that only care about profit

Educate yourself and learn about what has happened in Colorado,Pennsylvania,Wyoming and everywhere else that fracking is done.Don’t buy into the industry lies about how this has been done for 60 years and there are no reports of any contamination…deep shale, horizontal,”experimintation” is a new process that can NOT be done safely….

I recently saw a video where it showed 2 British gas executives in Pennsylvania saying that they could not believe what they are allowed to do in this country. They could not believe the level of irreversible damage that fracking has caused…it would never, ever be allowed over there.

It is a crime in my opinion and something we all need to be opposing…and opposing with a passion.
